A powerful, beautifully written debut by Randy Susan Meyers, The Murderer’s Daughters deals with the aftermath of a shocking act of violence that leaves two young sisters with no one to cling to but each other.
Mama was a flirt whose estranged husband still hungered for her. After she threw him out, she warned her little girls never to let Daddy in the house. But one day, 10-year-old Lulu opened the door for her drunken father…and watched in horror as he killed her mother, stabbed her younger sister and tried to take his own life.
Abandoned to a terrifying group home and eventually taken in by a well-to-do family, the girls carry more than visible scars from the tragedy. As they grow into women, struggling to carve their own lives, the ties that bind them often threaten to tear them apart. While Lulu holds fast to her anger, constructing a web of lies about her father’s death that eventually ensnares her own husband and daughters, Merry feels compelled to visit him in prison, seeking his love and approval at the expense of her own relationships. When they learn their unrepentant father is about to be paroled, the house of cards they’ve built their lives on teeters on the brink of collapse.

I never could get into the story. Lulu never forgave her father. Ok. How many times are you going to tell us that? Book dragged. Glad when it finally ended.

I felt the book just dragged on and on..I kept reading it hopeing it would have a terrific ending but it did'nt. Well written but very boring.

Although the book was well written, it was very slow and, after reading the first two thirds word for word, I gave up and started skimming. Unfortunately, the last third is where almost everything seems to happen, but by then I really didn't care. I do feel that it gave an accurate, if depressing, portrayal of how the girl's lives were effected and how each one learned to cope in her own way. I suppose that setting the murder in the 60's explains why there was so little understanding for the girls trauma and absolutely no help at all in learning to cope. I hope/believe that when such a situation occurs at this time, the babies are not thrown out with the bathwater. One pet peeve of mine...Why don't cover artists ever seem to have read the book? Shouldn't it be a requirement?

I didn't want to put this book down. I tend to read certain authors but the premise of this book intrigued me so I thought I would try someone new. I'll now wait for Randy Susan Meyers' next novel.

Yes, I liked the book but, will I ever read it again? No, sorry!!! It was good in the beginning and it did keep you interested. But, it felt like they just dragged the book on, and on, and on. Never really got to a good enough point. I would not recommend reading it!
